Chemical Biology

NMR spectroscopy is an excellent technique for studying interactions between small molecules and proteins and this serves as the basis for Fragment based screening (FBS) where a library of small organic molecules (fragments) are screened against a protein to find interesting starting points for drug development and chemical probes.

In collaboration with Laboratories for Chemical Biology Umeå (LCBU) and Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR), NMR for life offers access to a chemically diverse fragment library consisting of 1000 fragment suitable for NMR-based FBS. In addition, a set of 96 fluorinated fragments is also available for screening using 19F-NMR.

In addition to the actual fragment library, the infrastructure provides access to personnel with experience in fragment based screening and all the necessary equipment for sample preparation and data acquisition. We also collaborate with Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) that provide access to High throughput screening of larger libraries as well as chemical support in form of organic synthesis.
